Project Overview

Denip Investments carried out comprehensive Topographical Survey (TOPO Survey) works along the Nairobi River corridor as part of the Nairobi River Project. The objective of the survey was to establish accurate geospatial data and ground levels to inform planning, design, and implementation of river rehabilitation, drainage improvement, and urban renewal initiatives.

Scope of Work

Survey Corridor Mapping

The survey covered the stretch of Nairobi River running from the western catchment near Museum Hill/Westlands area, through Parklands, Pangani, Kariobangi, and extending eastwards towards Kayole, Donholm, and Komarocks neighborhoods.

A continuous alignment was mapped, with chainages and reference points established along the entire route.

Data Collection & Measurements

Used advanced GPS and total station equipment to capture precise horizontal and vertical coordinates.

Cross-sections, longitudinal profiles, and natural ground levels were measured at regular intervals (as seen in the chainage marks e.g., 1+200, 7+825, 12+675).

Captured terrain features, existing drainage structures, bridges, and encroachments along the river corridor.

Geospatial Output

Produced accurate digital base maps overlaying the river corridor on existing cadastral and urban maps.

Delivered GIS-ready data sets for integration into hydrological modeling, urban drainage planning, and environmental studies.

Generated topographical plans showing chainages, contours, and critical reference points.

Purpose of the Survey

To support river restoration and flood control designs.

To guide drainage and sewer line planning for informal settlements along the river.

To provide a reliable reference framework for landscaping, public spaces development, and environmental rehabilitation.

Key Deliverables

High-accuracy topographical survey maps with full chainage markings.

Digital terrain models (DTM) for engineering design.

Detailed survey report highlighting existing conditions and critical challenges.
